1. Verification of Applicant Legal Status (verification must be obtained from or verified directly with registration agency):
There are 4 possible types of entities for an EV certificate;

Private Organizations –This denotes incorporated type entities.  Typical suffixes would be Inc., LLC, (US) Ltd. (UK), Pty. Ltd. (AUS), GMBH (Germany), AS (Norway)

Government Entities – These will be departments of the government, pubic/state schools, local governments, etc.

Business Entities – These are non-incorporated businesses created by filing with the government.  There must be a registration authority, and something equivalent to at least a business license.  General Partnerships and Limited Partnerships generally fall into this category as well.  Some sole proprietors do qualify as a Business Entity, others do not.  For example UK sole proprietors do not currently qualify for EV as there is no registration authority for sole proprietors in the UK.

Non-Commercial Entities – This designation is for international organizations that are not specifically tied to one country or government.  Things like NATO and the United Nations fall into this category.

2. Blacklist Check:
•    Check against anti-phishing work group, US treasury department denied persons and organizations list, and other exclusion lists.

3. Verify DBA/Trade Name (if applicable):
•    Directly with registration agency or through a third party database such as D&B or Hoovers.

4. Verify Physical Existence:
•    Through third party database such as D&B.

5. Verify Operational Existence:
•    If registered more than three years, this will demonstrate operational existence.  If not, your organization must be on a third party database (D&B) or you must provide a bank letter stating your organization has a demand deposit account with a regulated financial institution.

6. Verify Phone Number:
•    Verified through third party database or an online source that gets information directly from telecom.

7. Verify Domain Ownership:
•    Verified through domain registrar.  (if your domain is set to private, please suspend privacy until validation is complete)

8. Verify Name, Title and Authority of Contract Signer:
•    If the contract signers name is on the provided documents or D&B, then verification is complete.  If not, we call HR and verify the name and title of the contract signer. (note: contract signer has authority to verify certificate approver/requestor.  If contract signer, approver, and requestor is the same person, steps 8 and 9 can be completed quicker)

9. Verify Name, Title and Authority of Certificate Approver/Requestor:
•    Can be verified by a phone call to HR or directly by contract signer.

10. Signature/Approval Verification:
•    Verified through a phone call to the contract signer
